Daily Bible Reading with DragoNate #50

God Sees Your Heart

2 Kings 22

I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 18-19) "Tell the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, 'This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says concerning the words you heard: Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people... and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you declares the Lord."

My Thoughts

The second Bible reading on my blog was about how God can always use you. That reading was taken from 2 Chronicles 34 and had to do with King Josiah, and how God used him in great ways from the time he became king at eight years old. This time, again with King Josiah, it has to do with how his heart was responsive to the words of God.

God sees our hearts. Not only does He see our hearts, but that is what He looks at and cares about. Our hearts determine our intentions. If we have evil in our hearts, our intentions are going to be evil for the choices we make and the actions we take. This is why we need to keep our hearts in the right place with everything that we do.

Yes, God does care about what we do, no matter what it is, but He looks at our hearts to see what our intent is. You do five good deeds a day, intentionally, setting out a plan the day before. If your reason for why you do these good things is so that you can be rewarded in some way, then your heart is not in the right place, is it? Whatever you do for anyone else, it should not be done for selfish gain.

If you want to set out a plan for good things to do each day, go for it, there's nothing wrong with it. Just make sure that what you do, you do because you want to. Don't allow those selfish thoughts to creep in there. Don't think that the more you do, the more God will favor you. Do good things because you want to.

Sometimes you may need to check your heart to make sure that you've put it in the right place. Let your heart guide you because Jesus lives in your heart. Jesus lives in your heart, so don't let any kind of corruption take it over. Examine your heart in your priorities, make sure that your heart is in the right place and that your priorities are set accordingly.
