God's Compassion

Jonah 3

(v. 10) "And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said he would do unto them; and he did it not."

My Thoughts

When Jonah obeyed God and went to Nineveh to proclaim what God had told him to proclaim, the Ninevites actually listened! They believed God and turned from their evil ways! If Jonah had chosen to keep running away and not go to Nineveh like God had said, then Nineveh would have been destroyed. God had compassion on them and did not destroy them.

God has compassion for everyone. No matter what you do or what you have done, God will have compassion on you if you repent. If we don't repent of our sins and we continue to partake in them, we will be destroyed. not right away, not within a couple years. There will be consequences that will be immediate or soon, but the worst comes when we die. If you have not repented of your sin before you die, you will not spend eternity with God.

Eternity with God will be the best thing you could ever imagine! No sadness, no fear, no hurt, no lies, absolutely nothing bad, negative or evil. Eternity without God will be the worst you could ever imagine. I'm not saying this to scare or condemn anyone. What I am saying is from the Bible. If you wait too long to repent, it will be too late. God is compassionate and loving and patient. He will not make exceptions though and He does not back down on His word.

God's compassion for us is so great that He will forgive us when we repent. We cannot just say "sorry" and ignore what we've done, then go on doing the same thing. The biggest part of repentance is that we need to make a conscious, concerted effort to turn away from our sinful ways. To receive God's forgiveness, you need only ask for it, accept it and forgive yourself and turn from it entirely.
